Whirlwind of three starters marks T.C. McCartney’s first year as Broncos quarterbacks coach
None of the Broncos’ young quarterbacks knew the backstory of T.C. McCartney until he walked into their meeting room one day earlier this year wearing a Sal Aunese shirt.
“I asked him about it and he said, ‘Go watch the ’30 for 30,’” rookie Brett Rypien said before practice Thursday.
The November 2015 documentary “The Gospel According to Mac,” features McCartney’s grandfather Bill, the former Colorado coach. It includes the story of Aunese, T.C.’s father who quarterbacked the Buffaloes in 1987-88.
Aunese died of stomach-and-lung cancer in September 1989, when T.C. was five months old.
